Events

Park vehicle passes are required for all events at North Dakota and Minnesota state parks. Vehicle passes are $7 daily and $35 annually in both states.

• Jan. 20: Lake Region Sportsmen's Club Rifle Raffle and Hunt. Registration from 6 to 8 a.m. at Cenex West in Devils Lake. Entry fee $10 per hunter (rabbit, fox, coyote); includes raffle. • Jan. 27: Lantern lit Snowshoe and Ski Event, 5 to 7:30 p.m., Itasca State Park. Meet at the Jacob V. Brower Visitor Center. Limited snowshoes available on a first-come, first-served basis. Info: (218) 699-7251 or itasca.statepark@state.mn.us.

• Feb. 3: Sixth annual AK Vintage Snowmobile Show, Blue Moose, East Grand Forks. Registration from 8 to 11 a.m., $5 per entry. • Feb. 3: David Johnson Vintage Sno-Cat Spectacular, Pioneer Farm, 2 miles west of Roseau on state Highway 11. • Feb. 25: Wild Outdoors Women (WOW) Weekend, Lake Metigoshe State Park. Outdoor learning event for women 16 and older who wish to learn or improve on outdoor skills associated with several outdoor recreational activities. • Feb. 3: Darkhouse spearfishing workshop, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Upper Souris National Wildlife Refuge office northwest of Minot. Registration is limited to 18 participants, with a minimum age of 12. • Feb. 17: Springsteel Resort and Warroad Chamber of Commerce Ice Fishing Derby, noon to 4 p.m., Lake of the Woods near Springsteel north of Warroad, Minn. Brad Dokken

Brad Dokken is a reporter and editor of the Herald's Sunday Northland Outdoors pages. Dokken joined the Herald company in November 1985 as a copy editor for Agweek magazine and joined the Herald staff in 1989. He worked as a copy editor in the features and news departments before becoming outdoors editor in 1998. He also writes a blog called Compass Points. A Roseau, Minn., native, Dokken is a graduate of Bemidji State University.
