FARGO -- Three North Dakota cities have made the list of the best places to live in the United States -- and they were all bunched together. The rankings by Livability.com put Fargo at No. 76, followed by Bismarck at 78th and Grand Forks at 79th. Cities in nearby states making the list were Rochester, Minn., at the highest ranking at No. 9. Edina, Minn., at No 58, Sioux Falls, S.D., at No. 64 and Brookings, S.D., at No. 80.
SISSETON, S.D. – A Granite Falls, Minn., woman has been identified as the victim in a one-vehicle fatal rollover that occurred early Saturday morning on Interstate 29 near the South Dakota-North Dakota border. Killed in the crash was Marrisa Mountain, 23, who was a passenger in the 2007 Ford Crew Cab that was southbound about 1:30 a.m. on the interstate, left the road and eventually rolled.
SISSETON, S.D. – A 23-year-old woman died and a 28-year-old man was seriously injured Saturday morning in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 29 near the North Dakota and South Dakota border. Names of the two people involved are not being released pending notification of families. SPICER, Minn. — Despite the recent long stretch of below-zero weather in Minnesota in recent weeks, ice fishermen have been going through the ice on central Minnesota lakes in the past few days. Three incidents were reported on Friday, Jan. 19. Two ice fishermen from Spicer in east-central Minnesota were able to safely climb out of a pickup truck that plunged into water Friday evening offshore on Green Lake in Spicer.
FARGO -- Classic rockers Def Leppard and Journey announced Friday, Jan. 19, that they are teaming up for a North American tour that in this region will take them to Sioux Falls, Minneapolis and Fargo. The two will perform together in 58 cities on the tour starting May 21 on the east coast. The regional concerts are at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls on Wednesday, July 18, at Target Field in Minneapolis on Friday, July 27, and at the Fargodome in Fargo the next day.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources on Thursday, Jan. 18, announced the state has approved changing the name of Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis to Bde Maka Ska. The DNR’s decision follows a Hennepin County Board resolution requesting the change.
ST. PAUL — A record number of Minnesotans have signed up for health insurance coverage through the state’s MNsure program. The program said Wednesday, Jan. 17, that 116,358 residents have enrolled in the individual market from Nov. 1 to Jan. 14, breaking the previous year’s record of 114,810.
BISMARCK -- – A North Dakota Powerball player made the trip to Bismarck Tuesday, Jan. 16, to claim the $100,000 Powerball prize. The lucky winner from Dickinson, who chose to remain anonymous, hit it big with a quick pick ticket. The person matched four white balls and the Powerball for $50,000, but then had purchased the multiplier to double the winnings. The winner said initial plans include paying off some bills and putting the rest away for a college fund.
BISMARCK, N.D. – About 630,000 gallons or 150 barrels of produced water has spilled in western North Dakota after a valve failed on a tank used in a carbon storage study by the University of North Dakota Energy and Environmental Center. SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Zac Brown Band is coming to the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls this summer, with tickets going on sale next Friday, Jan. 19. The Sioux Falls stop will be the second city on the band’s new 27-date tour on Saturday, June 9. The band will also have a concert later in the summer, Aug. 10, at Target Field in downtown Minneapolis.
