California man sentenced to prison for sex, drug trafficking in ND BISMARCK – A 35-year-old California man has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison for sex and drug trafficking.
WASHINGTON -- U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp said Thursday, April 19, that she will vote to confirm CIA Director Mike Pompeo to serve as secretary of state. He would replace Rex Tillerson, who left the State Department March 31 after apparent disagreements with the Trump Administration. Heitkamp also voted for Tillerson.
BLOOMING PRAIRIE, Minn. -- The southeast Minnesota woman accused of shooting to death her husband at their home in Blooming Prairie and then a stranger she met in Florida was captured in a convenience store video in Iowa that law officers hope will help in finding her. The Dodge County (Minn.) Sheriff’s Department said the video shows Lois Ann Riess grabbing a sandwich and asking a clerk for directions to go south.
BISMARCK – Syphilis cases climbed by 28 percent in North Dakota last year compared to the year before, according to a report by the North Dakota Department of Health. The number of cases climbed statewide to 78. Meanwhile, there were decreases in the two other main sexually transmitted diseases with chlamydia cases down 5.1 percent to 3,280 and gonorrhea cases falling 3.8 percent to 967.

MINOT, N.D. -- Minot police are looking for a 33-year-old woman after a man was shot in the leg early Tuesday morning, April 17, in the southeast part of the ciyt. The woman is Crystal A. Johnson. Police said she is a person of interest in the case where the 54-year-old man had a gunshot wound to the leg. Police said the man was taken to a Minot hospital but was treated and released.

BLOOMING PRAIRIE, Minn.— A southeast Minnesota woman being sought after her husband was murdered in March is now a suspect in a second death. Lois Riess of Blooming Prairie has been identified as a suspect in death of Pamela Hutchinson in Bradenton, Fla., according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office in southern Florida. Investigators believe Riess may have killed Hutchinson earlier this week in order to assume her identity. The Lee County Attorney's Office announced charges against Riess in Hutchinson's death on Friday morning, April 13.
MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot Police Department has received several reports of a fundraising scam in the city where callers attempted to raise donations for a “police action fund” on behalf of city police. Police Capt. John Klug said there is no agreement with such an organization and that “we don’t solicit donations by phone for any reason.”
MINOT, N.D. -- A 33-year-old convicted Minot felon has been arrested for firing multiple gunshots outside a northwest city apartment on Wednesday night, April 11. Marcus Hill faces four charges in the incident, police said. At about 9:45 p.m. officers were called to the apartment for a report of gunshots. Empty casings were found, and later police found a gun believed to be used in the shooting and stolen in Hill’s apartment.
